The Rev. Joseph Elstonguest speaker

St. Joseph Marello Holy Name Society announced the Rev. Joseph Elston will be guest speaker and attorney Sam Falcone Jr. will be toastmaster at the 36th annual smoker Sunday March 18.

Rev. Joseph Elston

The Rev. Joseph Elson was born in Scranton, son of LeRoy and Dorothy Elston. He entered St. Pius X Seminary in Dalton while attending the University of Scranton. He received a Master of Divinity degree from Christ the King Seminary, East Aurora, N.Y. and was ordained to the priesthood in 1985 by Bishop James C. Timlin.  

Rev. Elson has been assistant pastor of the Church of the Annunciation, Williamsport; director of religious education at Sacred Heart High School, Carbondale; pastor of St. Mary’s Church, Avoca, and chaplain at Hospice of the Sacred Heart and chaplain and dean of students at Holy Redeemer High School, Wilkes-Barre. He was named pastor of St. John the Evangelist/St. Joseph Marello Parish, Pittston, in June 2017.

Attorney Samuel Falcone Jr.

Attorney Sam Falcone Jr. is a graduate of Pittston Area High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Brown University and juris doctorate from Widener University School of Law. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Wilkes-Barre Law and Library Association of the Luzerne County Bar Association.

Atty. Falcone is a partner in the law firm of Saporito, Falcone and Watt on North Main Street, Pittston.

He is a member of St. Joseph Marello Parish, Pittston, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 372, Pittston. He is married to the former Suzanne Ruda, of Avoca, and now resides in Jenkins Twp. The couple has three daughters.

Ticket information

The smoker will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at the Mount Carmel Center on William Street, Pittston. Men of all ages from the parish and surrounding area are invited. Tickets are $12 and can be obtained at the St. Joseph Marello Parish office, from Holy Name Society members or by contacting ticket chairman Stan Rovinski at 570-905-8627. Smoker committee members urge everyone to get tickets early as only a limited number of tickets will be available at the door.
