As you prepare for fall and start moving your summer clothing into storage, you may discover old documents as you shuffle boxes around. Rather than place them in your trash cans, consider putting them in a shredding bin at the borough’s upcoming community paper shredding event.
Avoca has partnered with Paper Eaters of Wilkes-Barre to host a community paper shredding day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Avoca Municipal Garage, 1103 Plane St. This event will provide Avoca residents with a safe and secure way to dispose of old, unwanted documents. Residents will be asked to provide proof of residency by showing picture ID or drivers license.
Paper Eaters will assist residents with loading their paper into the containers, all of which will be lifted into the shredding truck. Paper with staples and/or standard paper clips will be accepted to shred along with standard file folders and envelopes. Larger binder clips, plastic protective covers or plastic of any kind is not permitted in the shredding truck. Magazines, newspapers, binders and cardboard are not allowed.
Please contact Kelly at 570-457-4947 with any questions.
Fire department fund drive
Avoca Fire Department’s annual fund drive is underway. Residents should have received their appeal letter in the mail. This project is the department’s major fundraiser of the year and supports all of its operating costs.
In addition to meeting their annual expenses, the department is hoping to receive enough financial support through the appeal to make necessary repairs to the shared Emergency Services Building, primarily replacing the leaking roof.
Donations of all amounts are welcome and can be made by following the instructions in the appeal letter or online via PayPal at avocafire.net.
The members thank you in advance for your generosity.
