Dupont Crime Watch, in conjunction with the Dupont Lions Club, will host a trunk and treat on Sunday, Oct. 27, at the Sacred Heart Church parking lot. The Crime Watch and Lions Club welcome any organization or individual interested in having a decorated vehicle for the event. Prizes will be awarded. The event also will include a costume contest, kids’ activities and more. Vehicle set-up will be at 3 p.m. and the event starts at 4.
Hose company fund
drive and meeting
The 2019 fund drive for the Dupont Volunteer Hose Company is underway. Letters have been sent to all residents of the community, The fire department relies primarily on donations from this yearly fund drive in order to provide the best possible level of fire protection to the community. As always, the fire company does not ask for any specific donation, but is grateful for any and all donations you may be able to make to the department.
If you are interested in becoming a part of the organization, please feel free to stop by the station for an application or call 570-654-5121 for information. The department accepts applications for both fire fighting and non fire fighting members.

The next meeting of the Dupont Volunteer Hose Company will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the company home on Main Street.
Voting location change
Voting in Dupont will have a new location for the Nov. 5 election. Luzerne County Board of Elections has changed the location from the Dupont Municipal Building to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 401 Main St., Dupont. The doors on Grant Street will be used as the entrance for voters and parking will be in the back on Grant Street. The ADA entrance will be the kitchen entrance off the Grant Street parking lot.
Luzerne County has notified Dupont Borough of the upcoming free tire collection which will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Hanover Area Jr./Sr. High School, 1600 Sans Souci Parkway.
Dupont workers will collect tires for the county collection. Place tires curbside for collection Friday, Oct. 11. There is a two-tire limit per residence.
Acceptable tires are: automobile, motorcycle, light pickup trucks, SUV, ATV and farm tractor tires. Tires must be whole, removed from rims, be uncut and free of liquids and heavy mud.
For residents who wish to drop off tires in Hanover Twp. themselves, pre-registration is required and there is a limit of 16 tires per vehicle. Tires will not be accepted without a pre-registration number. Please call 1-800-821-7654 to register.
Collection of 2019 school taxes will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at the municipal office. If you are in need of an appointment or have not received a bill, please call 570-262-4100.
Trash fee changes
Dupont Borough Council, at a special meeting on Sept. 24, voted to contract with JP Mascaro for the 2020-21 trash collection.
The rate per household is scheduled to possibly increase $50. More details have to be worked out with council. The new trash collection contract will top the agenda at the council meeting Tuesday, Oct. 8.
The Dupont Public Works Department will continue to pick up recycling and yard waste on Mondays and Tuesdays and special projects will be done on Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays.
Residents will be allowed three bags per week. Bulk item collection will remain the same. With a sticker, you can have a bulk item picked up on Mondays by Mascaro.
Dupont Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4909 will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at the post home. Many items of importance will be discussed and reports given. Commander Mike Hope will preside. The Home Association meeting will follow. Food and refreshments will be served after both meetings.
Little League meetings
Avoca/Dupont Little League will meet at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, at the Avoca Borough Building. League officers for the 2019-20 season will be elected. The fall season and continuation of the league’s combining with Pittston City and Duryea, as well as all regular business, will be on the agenda.
Also, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, Greater Pittston Area Little League, consisting of Avoca/Dupont, Duryea and Pittston City, will hold a general meeting to discuss the upcoming merger of these three leagues. The meeting will be held at the Duryea Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, 492 Stephenson St. All officers from each league are required to attend. The meeting is open to the public and anyone interested in the league or in volunteering in any capacity is welcome to attend.
Lions Club meeting
Dupont Lions Club’s next monthly meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.
Sacred Heart senior bingo
Senior bingo sponsored by the Pastoral Outreach Apostolate of Sacred Heart Church will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, in the church hall. All parishioners 55 and older are invited. Admission is free. Refreshments will be served and token prizes will be awarded. Come and enjoy an afternoon of fun and fellowship.
Sacred Heart Parish
Cemetery Sunday devotions will take at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at Sacred Heart Church. They will begin with the exposition of the blessed sacrament and the praying of the sorrowful mysteries of the rosary. The names of parishioners who died and were buried from the church since last year’s devotions will be read aloud. After solemn benediction and reposition, a procession will form to the cemetery while the faithful sing the Litany of the Saints. The faithful who cannot walk in the procession may drive to the cemetery. The Rev. Thomas Petro will then bless the cemetery and visitation of the graves will follow. Traditional Polish, Latin and English hymns will be sung. The public is invited to attend and joinus in praying for the peaceful repose of the souls of all the faithful departed.
