Save your appetites for next Sunday morning because the Germania Hose Company firefighters are trading in their axes and hoses for skillets and spatulas at the hose company’s annual breakfast.

Germania Hose Company will have its annual all-you-can-eat breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon Sunday, Feb. 16, at the hose company, 430 Foote Ave. The menu includes sausage, ham, home fries, eggs, pancakes, rolls, coffee and juice.

Tickets, which are $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 and younger, can be purchased at the door or from any member.

Holy Rosary news

Kudos to Holy Rosary School, which recently held its annual “Soup Derby” as part of its Catholic Schools Week celebration. The students enjoyed the event by not only competing in a soup can rolling contest, but also donating 300 cans of soup to the Pittston Food Pantry.

Continuing their Catholic Schools Week celebration, the students also had a girls vs. boys basketball game featuring players from grades five to eight.

Food distribution

The CEO food drive is held the second Monday of each month at Sacred Heart Hall, 527 Stephenson St. Anyone in need of food may call Lois Hanczyc at 570-457-2482 for an application.

Trash stickers

Residents are reminded 2020 garbage stickers should have been purchased by Jan. 31. The stickers still can be purchased with an additional $10 fee. The prices with the additional fee are one bag per week, $110; two bags per week, $165; three bags per week, $205, and four bags per week, $245.

Stickers can be purchased from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the municipal building, 315 Main St. Residents also can receive their garbage stickers by mail by sending the payment and a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the municipal building.

Residents must have the 2020 sticker displayed in their window to have their garbage collected. The number of bags placed curbside for collection must match the sticker in the window. Extra bags will not be collected.

Collection schedule

Duryea Street Department collection schedule for the week of Feb. 9 is as follows: garbage, Monday, Feb. 10, and Tuesday, Feb. 11. There is no recycling this week. Ashes will be collected Friday, Feb. 14.

Council meeting

Duryea Council will meet Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the municipal building, 315 Main St. The work session begins at 6:30 p.m. followed immediately by the council meeting.

Little League meeting

and registration

Greater Pittston Area Little League will hold its monthly board meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the conference room of the Tipsy Turtle Airport Pub, 28 Concorde Drive, Avoca. All parents and guardians are encouraged to attend. The meeting is open to the public.

Greater Pittston Area Little League will conduct in-person registration for the 2020 spring season from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at Sky Zone, 195 Enterprise Way, Pittston Twp. Any player who registers at the event will receive a free 30-jump session at Sky Zone. Please note, Sky Socks are required to participate in a jump session.

Children ages 4-12 who live in Avoca, Duryea, Dupont, Pittston City, including Glendale, Houston City or Pocono Ridge Estates or who attend the Pittston Area Intermediate Center or Holy Rosary School are invited to play baseball in this league.

The league conducts a full draft of all major and minor teams annually. All returning and new players’ skills are assessed each year.

The age categories and registration fees are as follows: T-ball, ages 4-6, $25; coach pitch, ages 6-9, $50; minor, ages 9-11, $85, and major, ages 10-12, $85. The maximum charge per family is $125. The registration fee includes insurance, a jersey and a hat.

Legion Mardi Gras party

Duryea American Legion Brenan Regan Post 585 will host a Mardi Gras party from 7 p.m. to midnight Friday, Feb. 21, at the post, 329 Main St. There will be free food, games, giveaways and music and karaoke by Tiffany.

VFW entertainment

Duryea Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1227 will host Crystal Skies from 8 p.m. to midnight Friday, Feb. 28, at the post, 492 Stephenson St. The public is invited.

Al-Anon meetings

Al-Anon meets at 7 p.m. Thursdays at Brick United Methodist Church, 935 Foote Ave. This is an anonymous 12-step program of recovery for families and friends of addicts and alcoholics.

Birthday wishes

Happy birthday to Chrissy Ryzner Wastradowski, who will celebrate Friday, Feb. 14.

Happy birthday to Joe Demich, who will celebrate Saturday, Feb. 15.
